There’s currently a loophole in WA law which means Lisa Scaffidi cannot be held to account under the Local Government Act if she resigns. Apparently, the Act only applies to current (and not former) office holders.
To demonstrate her wonderful character and judgment, Scaffidi has reportedly threatened to resign as Lord Mayor in order to take advantage of the situation before Parliament can fix the law:

Safe spaces are all the rage in the US at the moment. For all the intolerant bigots out there who don’t know what a safe space is:
A place where anyone can relax and be fully self-expressed, without fear of being made to feel uncomfortable, unwelcome or unsafe on account of biological sex, race/ethnicity, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, cultural background, age, or physical or mental ability; a place where the rules guard each person’s self-respect and dignity and strongly encourage everyone to respect others.
It often feels like we are barrelling head first towards an Orwellian society where it is no longer safe to do or say anything. The latest no-no is micro-aggression, outlined in this very interesting article by Frank Furedi:
I can guarantee you that if any intelligent person had an ant plague in their backyard, their strategic response would not exclusively involve getting out a revolver and periodically shooting some of the ants roaming the surface. They also probably wouldn’t attempt to ‘open up a dialogue’ with the ants in order to better understand them or get their friends to denounce the ants on social media.
(Please correct me if I’m wrong and you have successfully eradicated ants with any of these strategies).
Knowing this, why is bombing rubble into powdered rubble with air strikes pretty much the only strategy used by world leaders against IS to date? Unless, of course, the strategy is to keep the ants?
The moment Turnbull took over as Prime Minister, I wrote that his biggest challenge was getting the budget back in order, particularly in respect of the serious spending problem that we have.
So far, the talk has been about increasing the GST and increasing taxes on super for anyone earning more than $36,000. Hmm.

Over 10 years ago, I did the smart thing and made sure I bought my house more than 10km away from the coast line so that global warming could make it a beach side manor for me in no time at all. Unfortunately, things haven’t quite yet panned out and I remain exactly the same distance away from the coast as when I started.
