The first sub won’t be delivered for another 12-15 years and the official contract hasn’t been signed. However, that hasn’t stopped South Australian Premier Jay Weatherill from jetting straight off to Paris within days of Turnbull’s announcement.
He even managed to find some room in the budget to bring a Sky News journalist along with him:
Sky News reporter Ahron Young travelled to Paris as a guest of the South Australian government.
Hearing the news of Weatherill’s travels, the French PM immediately reciprocated in-kind:
France’s Prime Minister Manuel Valls will make a surprise visit to Australia on Monday for talks with Malcolm Turnbull, after a French shipbuilder won a huge submarine contract.
If only governments could deliver projects as efficiently as the speed with which they are able to consume our money.
