Now this may sound a little silly*, but if you think like Malcolm Turnbull and act like Malcolm Turnbull, then there’s a very good chance that you’ll end up like Malcolm Turnbull – and have a bad time.

This time last year, Quadrant lost the last of its government funding. Rather than giving them a handout, I advocated subscribing on the basis that it represented good value for money. I also put my money where my mouth was and subscribed. Many others would have done the same and the folks at Quadrant probably saw a nice spike in subscriptions.
Now that the year is up, many are reflecting on what they got for their money. Doublethink wasn’t supposed to be part of the subscription.

Did you ever wonder why the ABC’s budget figures never seem to quite add up?

You’ve probably read this elsewhere already, but it’s simply too good not to share it here for the benefit of those who may not have seen it.
This brilliant piece of work by Beliaik says absolutely everything about the current state of the ABC – which our taxes will fund to the tune of $1.06 billion in 2017-18 (see page 6-31).
I’ve decided to re-post the whole lot to do it justice. If you’re time poor and want the summarised version, feel free to zero in on the bolded parts below or head on down to Andrew Bolt’s blog:

Michael Smith has brought my attention to this article written by SMH’s Latika Bourke on 13 April 2017. Predictably, it’s the usual self-loathing plop that we’ve become accustomed to no longer paying money for:

Every year, the government seems to make it harder to really see what it’s doing with our money in the budget – whether by renaming things, requiring an extra click or two to access various papers or simply by the tried and true method of burying its sins deep into the treacherous abyss.
TMR refuses to be beaten.
If you want simple, no-nonsense budget analysis that can’t be found anywhere else, read on.
All figures have been sourced from the official 2017-18 budget papers and are presented so that you can form your own opinion.

Unlike those in the media, I don’t have advance ‘green room’ access to the budget papers.
I’m sifting through it all now and will have a post up soon.

TMR has written extensively about Perth Lord Mayor Lisa Scaffidi’s grubby conduct.
Today, the WA State Administrative Tribunal (Tribunal) has finally found Scaffidi guilty of 45 serious breaches of the Local Government Act 1995 (WA). A full copy of the decision can be found here.
The sheer brazenness of Scaffidi’s conduct in this matter has been utterly disgraceful.
Do yourself a favour and watch this. If you don’t crack a smile or your heart doesn’t warm just a little bit, then I give up:
