Editorial – Turnbull’s Twisting in the Wind

Malcolm Turnbull’s justification for replacing Tony Abbott was that he could provide better economic leadership. Six months on, how much longer should we have to wait for the evidence?

When announcing his leadership challenge, Turnbull said:

Ultimately, the prime minister has not been capable of providing the economic leadership our nation needs. He has not been capable of providing the economic confidence that business needs.

We need a style of leadership that explains those challenges and opportunities … and how to seize the opportunities. A style of leadership that respects the people’s intelligence, that explains these complex issues and then sets out the course of action we believe we should take and makes a case for it.

We need advocacy, not slogans. We need to respect the intelligence of the Australian people.

Don’t get too wet

For the last five months, the following manual could easily have been crafted for Turnbull:

  • Step 2 – let it sit for months without giving any specifics of what you would actually do or what you actually believe in. Don’t say crazy things like ‘raising the GST’, let other people do that. Instead, repeat words like ‘exciting’, ‘agile’, ‘opportunity’ and ‘reform’. It’s not a slogan if it’s only one word.
  • Step 3 – see how much of your piddle lands back in your face.
  • Step 4 – if it all gets too hairy with the focus groups, loosely abandon ship with words like ‘yet to be convinced‘ and and then jingle your keys in another direction (like negative gearing). 99.9% of society’s total collective memory of the issue will be erased within about 48-72 hours.
  • Step 5 – if people notice that nothing worthwhile is getting done, you can always say that you’re being ‘measured’ and ‘consultative’. Political writers like Malcolm Farr will eat this kind of stuff up and lick the bowl for you.
  • Step 6 – go back to step 1 and repeat.

So where does he stand?

For all the GST talk over the last 3-6 months, could anyone honestly say that they ever knew what Turnbull’s position was or what ‘course of action’ he believed in? Of course not.

How about where he stands on our debt and spending generally? Does he think they’re too high, too low, about right, or structurally fornicated wrecks that need immediate attention? Who would know?

Does anyone have even the faintest idea of what is coming next?

You would have to be intellectually amputated to think that Turnbull is simply being ‘measured’ in his policy approach. He’s not some run of the mill new employee. To the contrary, he’s:

  • already spent many years in his current workplace;
  • clearly spent significant time in recent years considering why he would make a better Prime Minister than Abbott; and
  • spent a lifetime aspiring to be Prime Minister.

He’s had plenty of time to ‘measure’ the ‘course of action’ he thinks Australia needs and it’s not asking too much to be clearly told what it is.

Turnbull’s very own words used to attack Abbott five months ago have now become ironically prophetic:

What we have not succeeded in doing is translating those values into the policies and the ideas that will excite the Australian people and encourage them to believe and understand that we have a vision for their future.

There must be an end to policy on the run and captain’s calls.

It all about the numbers

When you consider the numbers, it all becomes clear:

  • Turnbull’s only job until the next election is too fool enough leftists and politically apathetic people to vote for him.
  • Strong conservatives already hate Turnbull and won’t vote for him any way (he needn’t worry, most of their preferences will come his way anyway).
  • Pragmatic conservatives will still vote for Turnbull no matter what.

This is what happens when your only competition is an incompetent buffoon like Bill Shorten.

  1. I’m finding him very depressing well he is a raging Leftie and aren’t we and the world finding their idiotic dreams of Utopia and One World Government. Getting there by softening sentencing for crime doing away with the death penalty so we let out lifers on licence to try to make room in overcrowded prisons or build more. Let the left wing UN bring in unsuitable immigrants by the thousands who drain our welfare systems as have large families and live off welfare.. All of this on top of huge debt from last worst ever in history Labor/Green government who ran up billions in debt as no idea how to manage money, give it away for the arts when working families dont go and anyway should live by own efforts as all businesses and sports should do, as well as run up more debt for climate change schemes that backfired with deaths, fires and building for schools rorted by mates and treasury approving hundreds over cost that the ordinary man in the street would pay and of course ETS which Turnbull approved. Being leftie himself.
And all politicians far to interested in our and their own reputation overseas. Listening to Left wing lawyers on legislation designed to make the world a place where their OWG only can solve the problems they themselves invented to get to that very point.
As someone said the world today has insanity running through in huge proportions and this is off shoot of Genetics being used to make higher profit and its out of hand and greed using stuff in animal feed that is making mental issues appear in a ratio of around 1 in 5. .And that is on top of the outcome of feeding animals with feed using products that cause harm to humans like finding heavy metals in fish and salmonella in chicken faeces used in fertilizers.
And then we have an overpopulated world in which some practice a long banned marrying of daughters to 1st cousins just to keep their dowries in the family and cause genetic as well as mental health issues too. But we are allowing it happen within western nations also as to question it becomes a left wing hate fest of hurling names at the questioner like racist when of course its not a race but a cult, due to only way t exit is by death. And of course a world wide shortage of water but for decades the Greens have stopped damns being built to alleviate this. And foreign governments buying Oz up of its arable lands to feed their own come the day we have they say food wars.
And now too the UN and others are trying to ban the death penalty world wide, when life in western nations is already cheapened by lack of it and murders get months or very few years in prison and out to do it again so each crime below taking of life with intent becomes softer on sentence as ultimate deterrent is missing in action. yet the left scream when this is mentioned. And lie as often do saying homicide is down and DP is no deterrent.
But a look at Texas in USA shows this is just another of their blatant lies.

  2. Depressing indeed 😩 It seems being popular takes precedence over working on reducing our country’s woes but Turnbull’s election victory may not be a given if he keeps sitting on the fence despite facing a competitor like Shorten!
